|

| Is there any history of ITP being passed from parent to child ? I had an instance of ITP when I was a young boy (aged 5 - I'm now 36) - completely recovered post-splenectomy. I'm now the father of two beautiful girls (3 and 1 years) - but should I be watching them for symptoms ? |

| From what I understand ITP is not passed on genetically but the propensity to have autoimmune diseases does run in families. Also there is a sort of thrombocytopenia that is familial although it isn't strictly ITP. |

Bit late on the reply here.
It seems my son who has itp may have inherited it from me. I am still awaiting the results or conclusions on this. I would say it is possible as neither my son or I have any autoimmune problems - we just do not make enough and our condition is idiopathic |

| I guess it just depends on whether they end up calling it ITP or Familial Thrombocytopenia. Do any of the usual ITP treaments work with either of you? |

Immunoglobulin does not work for me, it just made me very unwell.
Danazol did bring my platelets up. The only thing that will get my platelets up for sure is a transfusion of them. Even then, the last time they made no difference but Debbie (Drew's last nurse) said it was probably an old batch.
My condition is classified as Idiopathic rather than Immune |
