I saw my hematologist today, and based on my feelings about endometrial ablation after hearing what it really entails, plus the fact that I'm very likely to switch jobs in the next month to a job with heavy travel (where watching my platelets routinely will be more difficult), AND the recent research about the effectiveness of low doses of rituxan, we decided to move ahead with giving it a try.
I'll have 200mg of rituxan on Thursday, and then weekly counts to see if a second treatment should be scheduled for week 4.
I've been quite happy relying in WinRho 2-4x a year for the past 5 years, but the fact that I likely won't have access to a lab with standing orders for platelet counts in the future means it's time to see if a different treatment will normalize my counts for a longer period of time.
Wish me luck! |

It sounds like a good plan, Tamar. Very practical.
You never know, Rituxan could be just the thing for you. I hope so...
Let us know how you get on. Make sure they give you the pre-meds.
All the best! |

Well, hema and I decided to call the low-dose rituxan a failure after 16 weeks. However, now at week 27 my count has topped 100. Mysterious, but I'll take it. I'm tempted to try to dissect whether it's related to the rituxan, but don't know how to so would just drive myself crazy. I am actually hopeful it's not a rituxan response and my ITP is burning out (maybe with a nudge from b cell depletion).
